Make your place more secure

Autodir 0.99.9 released

docs | download | mailing list | news

Overview

Autodir creates home, group directories for LDAP/NIS/SQL/local Unix accounts transparently.

Autodir enhances security of your system in many ways.

For instance, it constantly monitors permissions assigned to directories and corrects them to admin settings if found to be modified.

Autodir has transparent backup feature so that whole system need not bring offline for backup purpose. (see docs)

Autodir can create hundreds of thousands of directories not effected by underlying file system performance or architecture.

It is very easy to configure and no configuration file required. Just couple of command line options.

Autodir is quite modular and extendable.

Autodir uses Linux autofs4 kernel module to detect directory requests and create them on demand.

Autodir and backup locks
Autodir and multipaths

'Few' of the more interesting features not yet documented! See below for more adventure.

Can we access home directories from /home/dirs and all those same directories from other places like /ftp?
Its possible with Autodir!

Support for chroot processes?
Yep.

We do not want to create home directories in /home/dirs but is it possible to create same those directories for different use and whatever way we would like with lot of flexibility?
Yep. Autodir is very flexible in this way!

We deleted a user from our database and created new user with same name. Now how this will be handled?
Use renamedir suboption and Autodir will move those old home directories to the specified directory. Thanks to PiotrWadas.
