User interface

Interface

intraPerson has three interfaces depending on users -- for administrator, for regular users and for anonymous users. All these differences are explained in the following separate sections.

Figure 1. Login page

Login page

Interface for regular users

When an regular user logs in he can only see information related to him and he can also modify it -- for example passwords and other address book info.

Ordinary users also can search for other people by clicking the search link on the top of their personal page.

Tip

One interesting feature with intraPerson is to inform the user when his password last time updated.

Note

Ordinary users can not update their Work Mail.

Interface for administrator

Figure 3. Administrator interface

Administrator interface

Administrator interface is similar to webmail interface. On the left side there are all groups that exist and on the right side all users that exist in the selected group.

Important

openldap server root and intraPerson administrator are same.

Important

Remove button is not for deleting groups but is for removing users from the current group.

Special groups

There are two special groups called default and trash which always exist even if these does not exist actually in ldap.

default is special in that sense that it is temporary place to create and hold users and it does not support other features like unix group or mailing list with the same name as default. And users in default are not included in everyone mailing list.

Tip

Move users from default as soon as possible to a new group or to other groups.

trash is a special group to hold all deleted users. Passwords for trash are also disabled which means users can not login anymore.

Note

Deleted users are removed from all other groups first and then moved to trash.

Important

While in trash if users are purged, user entries are removed forever.

Tip

Users can be recovered from trash by moving users to other groups and giving fresh passwords.

Groups operations

Creating groups and deleting them is the easiest part. These are not created explicitly! But if new group is to be created just move or copy users to new group. If a group is to be deleted just move or remove all users from it.

Warning

Keep at least one user in a group if you do not want to delete that group forever. Of course that group can be created again by moving or copying users from other groups but gid numbers will not be same in case of unix groups associated with that group name.

Creating New User

Just click on New User button. Only uid name is required to create new user. User will be placed in current group.

Moving Users

Choose all users in current group and select existing or new group to move them. Users will be removed from current group.

Copying Users

Exactly like moving users but users are not removed from current group.

Deleting Users

Select users first and click on Delete button. Users will be moved to trash and at the same time they are removed from all other groups they belong to and passwords are also disabled.

Purging Users

This operation is only available in trash group. Once purged users are removed forever.

Anonymous access

While at login web page, if Search button is clicked without entering login name and password anonymous access is granted. With this access users can only search ldap and nothing more.

Search Interface

All authenticated users, administrators and anonymous users can search ldap using intraPerson search interface.

Note

In any search, only first 10 entries are displayed even if the search results exceed more then 10.

Simple search

Simple search interface

Whenever search link or button is clicked this simple search interface is presented first. In this mode search is made for matching entries for full name of the people.

Advanced Search

This mode can be entered from simple search page, by clicking on Advanced Search button. In this mode search can be made for matching string for various address book entries of the user.

If More is clicked while in advanced search mode, more address book fields can be searched at the same time by relating them by and, or, not logical words
